Havik: Designing a Modular UI for Military Simulation Softwar

Overview:

Havik is a military simulation software developed in Unity, used by various armies for training purposes. The software provides realistic simulations to enhance training effectiveness, and my role was to design a user interface that seamlessly supported these complex operations. I designed all the UI components and screens, developed a custom iconography system, and created a consistent, modular design framework that emphasized clarity and usability in high-stakes environments.

Objective:

The primary goal was to design an intuitive, modular user interface that could manage and present large amounts of data effectively, catering to various training scenarios. The system had to be both visually coherent and adaptable, ensuring users could easily interpret and interact with critical information like weather conditions, communication systems, and operational data.

Approach:

  1. UI Component Design:I designed all the interface components for Havik, focusing on clarity and functionality. Each element was carefully crafted to provide immediate access to essential information, allowing users to manage simulations effectively.
  2. Iconography & Design System:To represent different entities and actions within the simulation, I created custom iconography that was consistent with the military context. Additionally, I developed a modular design system that allowed the interface to scale across different simulation scenarios, maintaining consistency and ease of use.
  3. Modular Subsystem:I created a subsystem based on modular widgets to convey important information such as weather updates, communication systems, and other relevant data. This widget-based approach allowed for flexibility and customization, ensuring users could tailor the interface to their specific needs.
  4. Grid-Based Frontend Screens:The frontend screens were designed using an elaborate grid system to organize and display complex information in a structured way. This grid-based approach ensured that the UI maintained a high level of consistency and readability, critical for the software's demanding use cases.

Results:

The interface design for Havik resulted in a highly functional and adaptable system that improved usability and efficiency in military training simulations. The modular design system, combined with clear iconography and well-organized screens, ensured that users could easily navigate the complex simulation environment, enhancing the overall training experience.
